Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The 5th grade girls at my school are at a crucial age where they need an environment to be confident. Bringing fitness and health in a non-judgemental and fun environment for young women will empower them to cope with the challenges and social pressures of tween life with confidence and self-awareness.

My students are a diverse group of learners that include GT, ESL, general, and special education.

They absolutely love the outdoors. They love participating in fitness activities. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!

My Project

I want to start a girls' running program with 5th grade girls during recess. It will focus on health, fitness, nutrition, and meditation. I will use the yoga mats and blocks after running. We will use mats for stretching and strength training. I want to show girls the importance of correct postures when stretching using yoga poses. I want to model for girls that regular physical activity is vital for good physical and mental health. In return, the girls will learn to be more body confident and make better choices for themselves.
