My Students

I am an IEP Teacher at PS 31 in Brooklyn, NY. The majority of our students receive Title I funding and many are English Language Learners. My role is to provide RTI services. Therefore, I work specifically with students in small groups to provide them with additional support within the subject areas in which they struggle.

My work with students involves intervention services.

Some of my students receive special education services, while others are working in a small group in order to remediate skills which would prevent a referral to special education. Regardless of their classification, all of my students are hard workers who want to learn and bridge the gap so that they can reach grade level.

My Project

A sensory corner would give me students the opportunity to have calming breaks when needed. Often students look for different types of sensory input to calm them in times of crisis or to provide them with a reward for working hard to achieve a goal an accomplish a task. Sensory Corners are great options for students who struggle to regulate their behaviors and feelings. Having a sensory corner in the classroom, allows students to seek the input they need in a calm manner. I will teach my students that when it is time for a break in the Sensory Corner they should set the timer so that all students have the opportunity to utilize this area if necessary.
