My Students

Have you ever observed kids starting moving and jumping as they hear music? I hope that the big piano mat will encourages children not only have great fun while they running up and down the keyboard carpet, but also learn to read and play music.

I teach elementary school students from 4 to 12 years old.

Most of my students have music lessons once a week, but a few groups of kids have instructions twice a week. When children coming to the music room they learn using creative thinking, dancing and singing, and it is always fun and joy for them. The young kids from Pre-K through 2nd grade love playing simple songs, and upper grade students, grades 3 through 5, enjoy to compose and improvise music using instruments. Even though our classroom is equipped with music keyboards, there are still many needs. There is a shortage of instructional music supplies such as piano stickers and foot piano mats that definitely need to be placed in a keyboard classroom. Our school's population comes from low income families that struggle to pay everyday leaving. Children in poverty are more likely to be exposed to stress or face severe health problems, so it is crucial to provide them with everything they need to feel joy of learning.

My Project

The materials that we need would very useful in our keyboard classroom. It would add a new dimension of learning to play piano and basic music concepts. Students could learn steps, skips, and leaps using a big floor piano. Associating kinesthetic movements with melody patterns is pretty simple and easy to memorize. Changing the instrumental tones on a magic piano carpet would help kids to recognize the sounds of different instruments. Music stickers that we are requesting will be placed on regular keyboards to help students to remember the notes' names and their locations on a music staff in a traditional notation. It would help visual learners providing them with a simple tool they need.

Providing the funds for our classroom will enhance the music instruction for young learners amazingly because different types of learners would have the support for their learning.

Kinesthetic learners would learn as they move on a mat by running, skipping or dancing, and visual learners would get visual presentation of the musical ideas with stickers. Providing these instructional resources is crucial to removing the barriers to learn and unlocking opportunities for kids to learn with fun.
