GHS Recording Studio: Microphones 2.0!

My students need large diaphragm condenser mics for recording solo vocals. They also need stands for the mics to mount on and acoustic shields.

My Students

We're on our way to creating a fully functioning recording studio in our public high school. So far the students are just starting to unlock their potential as recording musicians, composers and audio engineers. These microphones are the next step in their journey.

Now that we've procured some of the basic equipment for our new studio interest is starting to take off.

Student bands, jazz combos and singer/songwriters are coming forward with intrigued enthusiasm to throw down their tracks and make their music come to life. Our local literary magazine uses the studio every other week to record live poetry slams and readings. Students from an English class called Voices are recording their own lyrics that will eventually be turned into CD. The student body is definitely starting to get excited about using the space we've created and seeing just how far we can go with it.

My Project

The microphones I'm looking to get are large diaphragm condenser mics, which means they are good at picking up solo vocals and for groups such as a choir. With two of these mics we can use them to record more than one soloist at a time, capture the sound of a choir more adequately and even start experimenting with mic placement in live spaces such as our auditorium. One of the goals of this project is to create a group of students who know how to use the equipment in and out so they can work various school events. My students will be amateur professionals within the school, recording and running audio for assemblies, concerts, speaker series, the musical, etc... With this knowledge and ability they can take their skills out into the community and hopefully get internships and careers in the pro audio world.

By donating to this project you are helping to create the first semi professional recording studio in our public school district.

You will be helping to create paths for students that go beyond what you can find in a normal high school. Not only will this project benefit individual student projects, but it will enhance learning opportunities across different departments within the school. Thank you so much for your contributions and for believing in the power of arts education!
