My Students

There's no other experience like putting on your first pair of truly noise canceling headphones and being immersed in a world where sound is your primary sense. When listening to your own music, the experience is even more inspiring and awakening to the imagination.

My students are highly motivated, creative and talented kids.

They are constantly creating music and sharing it with one another. Despite not having a single practice room in our old public high school or any music technology/theory classes, they still strive to succeed, create and explore the world of music. We're in the process of trying to create the first student run high school recording studio in the district.

My Project

We're looking to get a pair of studio headphones so that the students can monitor and critically analyze the music they are creating. Headphones are also an essential tool in recording multiple tracks. Without a quality set of headphones the student's won't be able to accurately hear and respond to their recordings. Yes, every student seems to have a small set of ear-buds hanging from their neck - but these small, cheap devices are pale in comparison in their ability to listen to and analyze sound. With noise canceling studio headphones the students will learn to critique and decipher things about music they've never thought about before. "Is the timbre of that horn too bright? I can hear a faint clip from the bass drum mic in the opening bar - perhaps we should re-position the microphone. Can you hear how pure that note the soprano is singing? Perfectly in pitch!"

By contributing to this project you will be helping to build the first ever student run recording studio in our district.

This project will impact thousands of students in the years ahead to help them better learners, listeners and musicians. Who knows, perhaps the next big film score composer, opera singer or jazz trumpet player will get their first taste of what it's like to record as a pro right here in high school?
