Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are studying New York City, but have no resources to learn from.

We work in a public school within New York City.

Most of our students come from low socio-economic status families. Our classroom is made up of special education students and English Language Learners. Many of our students parents do not speak English, as a result the students struggle with learning.

My Project

We are going to study New York City, but we have no resources within our classroom. We are also limited to one trip a year, which means we do not have the option to allow for hands on experiences within New York City. Having books that we can read and illustrations we can look at will help our students get to know the city they live in.

Our students do not get many opportunities to visit all the great places within New York City, even though they live here.

They know little about our great city. Teaching a Social Studies unit will expose them to New York City and hopefully spark their interest.
