Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Teaching is my life's work, and my high schoolers are my life's reward. My students are amazing because they regularly impress me with their insight, enthusiasm, and honesty.

The students of #Room1128 are special and appreciated: The one who fixes my IT issues, the one who translates for the ELL students, the one who volunteers to read--with gusto, the one who knows where all my misplaced objects go, the one who makes clever comments, the one who says little but listens to all, and even the one who leads the mini-rebellions.

Teaching freshmen is so rewarding because you get to witness their growth throughout four years. Students know they have a home-away-from-home at school, and their visits brighten up my day. They are members of various unofficial clubs--The Unofficial Breakfast Club, The Unofficial After School Club, and most recently, an Unofficial Pet Club! I feel so fortunate when they share their victories, fears, and thoughts in our sacred space.

My Project

Our classroom revamp continues, and this time around we're in need of an additional writing space. The mobile whiteboard is the perfect solution, and an eco-friendly one. A mobile whiteboard would be ideal for classroom collaboration--a #Room1128 norm!

This dry-erase surface will work splendidly when students are working in groups, when students are making presentations, and when students need one-on-one access to a mini-lesson.

The ficus plant is a "wishlist" item. When I asked the kiddos what plant they would prefer to be added to our growing collection, they confessed it would be this trendy one. After all, a living plant is more than just visual beauty; a living plant improves concentration, releases oxygen/ absorbs carbon dioxide, regulates humidity, and even boosts one's mood. What teacher wouldn't support that?
