Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As an ELA teacher to Multi Lingual Learners and students with individualized education plans in a low income/high poverty school district, my students face constant challenges. Some of these challenges can be difficulty learning a new language due to the fact that their education may have been stalled in their home countries for a variety of reasons; not knowing how to read; arriving to school late because they have to drop off younger siblings, simply not waking up when the alarm goes off; not having breakfast at home before coming to school....at just a few of the hardships my learners undergo.

Beyond these obstacles, they want to learn!

With the supplies that I have requested, it will help me to scaffold their work by color coding their worksheets or simply using the colored markers to place emphasis on important skills and/or strategies. Further, the portable dry erase board will help me to guide/instruct a small group of students, while others work independently. Lastly, I want them to feel at home when they enter our classroom. I want to be able to sit on a rug with them and talk about our current class novel or something that they would like to talk about.

On behalf of my students and myself, I would like to thank you in advance for assisting us in obtaining these much needed classroom supplies/furniture.
