Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic kids eager to learn. Over 90% of our students come from low-income households. A large percentage of our families meet the definition of homeless, living in garages or multiple families in one residence. My kids' parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. And yet, our children still want to create, read, write, and learn!

My students worry about coming to school and staying safe; and yet, they still want to come to school to explore, learn and grow.

I am teaching online and trying to meet my students' needs emotionally, as well as academically, during this pandemic. I want them to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read, learn to use technology, and at the same time, learn language arts, math, science, and social studies.

My Project

When we return to our classroom, I'd like to give my students a little extra protection from germs and viruses. Face shields, soap, storage boxes and envelopes will help to do that. I love hearing my students speak and share. When they are excited, the particles sometimes fly from their mouths. Masks sometimes slip off of little noses as children speak. Face shields will help cover their noses, as well as their mouths, and protect other students in the classroom from unintentional flying molecules (or spit). The shields are attached to glasses so students can wear them comfortably all day. These glasses fit over glasses, too. The shields can be sprayed with disinfectant and can be reused the next day.

Face Shields and Soap will help to protect us all from germs and viruses that can spread easily in a kindergarten classroom.

Storage boxes will allow my kids to store their personal materials without intermixing with others' materials. And the envelopes will allow us to sort and store math, science, and literacy materials for personal use throughout the day and for home use at the end of the day.
