Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year I have the wonderful opportunity to meet a group of 25 students who come from Spanish-speaking households. This cohort of students has grown up in our school together from the start of the school's dual-language program, and I have the luxury and the challenge as their teacher to continue their learning opportunities and to allow them to prosper in this upcoming school year.

The students in my class are challenging, exciting, motivated, and love to push the edges.

They are funny and love challenges. They need high expectations so that they can gain more confidence in themselves and what they want to do. They need to believe they are college-bound.

Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!

My Project

Building a classroom library is an ongoing process. It takes time, love, and quite a bit of research. With the addition of these series books, my students will be able to form book clubs and talk about what they are reading. My students will be able to learn the characters names, traits, actions, and follow the character.

My students will be able to fall in love with a character and continue to grow with the character.

They will no longer read one book in the series and forget about that character. I know my students will not be able to stop reading.
