My Students

I am at Special Education teacher in an urban school district. My students have special needs, however they have the benefit of operating in a general education setting everyday.

Fortunately, I am able to pull my students into small groups to reinforce the general curriculum on a daily basis.

Working with high school students can be tough, as they don't want to appear to be "different" from any other student. It is my great pleasure to be able to keep them on track with their learning in these small groups.

My Project

The use of a printer is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially with special education students. Using the workshop model in English, students are able to use guided outlines to understand literary text that is difficult. The printed resources will allow me to provide skills that are identified by their individual education programs and, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. It becomes a problem when the entire class is halted to help a student with an IEP understand the text. This printer would allow me to provide the resources classified students may need prior to reading the text and it will be used as an accommodation that evens the "literary field". When testing comes up, students will have a tangible document for notes, which will increase their learning.
