My Students
My classroom is filled with a group of energetic and spirited youth who would like the opportunity to love what they are reading. This group of students includes about 33% identified as English Language Learners with even more who are not formally identified but still need those supports. They enjoy reading lively, dramatic texts that allow them to get up and moving. Currently, they try their best to engage with the class text but find themselves disconnecting and becoming lost in the heavy language of many books that we have available for them. I want to see this group of students who have laughter and love ingrained in them come alive with their reading and understanding of literature.
My Project
Our students have worked hard this year to invest in independent reading time. Our goal is to become lifelong readers which can only be done when we have texts that interest and appeal to us available. Many students in our classroom who previously described themselves as folks who "hated reading" have found a new love for graphic novels. These students are devouring my small collection of graphic novels faster than ever before! By contributing to my project, you will aid students in becoming lifelong readers by supporting their interests and allow them to read more books!
