This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela
Educators are tasked with awakening the inner desires of students to learn and act as global citizens.
I teach fifth grade in a low-income school. We have a high population of ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages), LD (Learning Disabled) self-contained, and resource students. Many of my students are working below grade-level, which requires differentiated instruction and individualized interventions. I have students who have the desire to read but not the materials. Many times my students come to me with very little reading experience, outside of school.
My Project
My classroom library needs to be outfitted with up-to-date chapter books that will interest my current fifth graders. My students would be able to use these books in class or at home to help develop a love for reading! These books will be used daily for independent reading, shared reading, and guided reading.
I am looking for books that will spark their imaginations and encourage my students to develop a love of reading!
This selection of book series will do just that! These books will hopefully be the catalyst needed to ignite an interest in reading and motivate these students to become lifelong readers!
