My Students

My classroom is a diverse inclusive classroom of low-income students aged 3 to 5. For most of my students, this is their first learning experience. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch at school. We are located in the inner city of Pittsburgh and provide a free comprehensive program that is designed to nurture and support each child as we prepare them to transition to kindergarten.

My students are very interested in learning about letters, math social studies, engineering, and science, and they enjoy exploring with technology.

They are dreamers, thinkers, and questioners and love to discover new things about the world around them. Despite the challenges they face, they come to school each day ready to work and play with smiles and positive attitudes.

My Project

The dramatic play center is one of the most popular centers in our classroom, and many students choose this area daily. Many of our items are worn out or have broken, and we need new and fresh items to replace them. For our center, we need play food, toy appliances, and other materials to foster the students' imagination and play.

Dramatic play and role-playing helps preschoolers to learn important social skills such as empathy, language development, and expressive language skills that are necessary as they learn and grow.

Children learn through play, and dramatic play allows my students to practice what they see in the world around them such as going to a restaurant or taking care of a baby. It teaches them how to share and communicate as they use their imaginations and build on other skills they need each day. By adding the requested materials to our dramatic play center, we will help our students grow and learn!
