Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Learning science shouldn't be out of a textbook or videos. Doing science is how students learn it best. Giving my students the chance to express themselves is very important.

I have the privilege of teaching the most amazing first generation students with even more amazing stories.

With many of them coming from families of limited incomes, they qualify for free lunches, and reduces test costs. Our school sees the value of providing opportunities to improve the learning our kids can do.

I want to continue to provide the opportunity by asking them to embrace the fun in science by using art supplies to showcase learning in difficult concepts.

My Project

Think back to the days in elementary school when it was time for art. Kids love to be creative, even the ones who might lack the skills. There is nothing like getting your hands on Play-Doh, clay, LEGO bricks and chalk to build or make something.

In this activity students will use materials like clay and chalk markers, they will transform their desks into mini stage lots to model and make mini stop motion films to model difficult concepts.

I can see it now, the amount of excitement and fun the kids will take to develop excellent models with the clay, Play-Doh, LEGO bricks and markers. These materials will allos them to demonstrate things like protein synthesis, cell division, hydrolysis, and cell signaling.

When kids take ownership of learning, this improves the love science, the fun in learning and memories of a project they will truly enjoy.
