My students need additions to their cozy reading areas. The two reading pillows will be much loved items in my room. We also need more books! The Eyewitness books are student requests.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
As a first year teacher, I feel very fortunate to have the students that I do. The students in my room are vivacious, have a love of learning, and are always willing to tackle a challenge. My classroom is set up so that students are in collaborative learning groups where they can work together to solve problems.
My students come from many different backgrounds and ability levels.
Our school is a Title I school with a high population of English Language Learners.
My Project
My students love to read around our classroom and having additional reading cushions would increase the amount of individual reading areas in my room. My students currently take turns with the one reading cushion that we have in our room and it is a treat for them when they do get to use it. I would like to allow more students the opportunity to use the reading cushions during our independent reading time.
My students thoroughly enjoy reading nonfiction text, including historical non-fiction.
Unfortunately, this year our science and social studies blocks have seen some loss of dedicated time. My students are very excited to learn about history, and I feel that by adding the Eyewitness books to our classroom library, my students will have an increased opportunity to engage with history and science.
Finally, my students are enthralled with the "I Survived" book series. Our classroom currently has a few copies of these books and I am excited to add more to our library. These books engage my students with their perspective and writing style; they provide an opportunity for my students to read books that act as windows, showing the reader things outside of their own world.
