Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have some amazing students in my classroom this year. They come from different backgrounds, countries, home environments, different levels and different stages and phases in life. One thing that they all have in common is the desire to learn.

I am an educator in a low income/high poverty school district.

Some of my students face harsh challenges at home. Many come to school without the needed supplies or perhaps they come with the bare necessities, which isn't enough, and definitely won't last the entire year, let alone a quarter. I am happy that they come to school, even if they come unprepared at times.

As an educator, it's difficult to effectively teach when you don't have working equipment or the needed necessities for the equipment, or the needed supplies or supplemental materials. If I could, I would ensure that my classroom had everything needed in order for my students to succeed. Unfortunately, that is a hard task for me to achieve on my own. I am looking to keep things simple and provide for my students the needed items in the classroom which will enhance and make their educational experience a positive one.

My Project

I have an array of students that I teach in my fourth grade class. I switch with another fourth grade teacher. (departmentalized) I have a total of 50 students. I find that some of my students are very fidgety and find it hard to sit at a desk, let alone in the chairs that are designed for the desks I have in my classroom. They lean back in the chairs, and rock from side to side. It makes me nervous because these chairs are old and some have broken. Thank goodness no one was injured.

I believe these stools will allow students the freedom to sit at their desks more comfortably and yet allow some movement and not disturb others doing so.

These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. They can also be used as an alternative chair if needed! I can also use them when I am working with a small group at the kidney table.
