My Students

I teach middle school in a public K-8 school in South Philadelphia. In my classroom, students rotate through different stations to accommodate all different types of learners. They are a motivated and successful group of students who are eager to learn as much as they can with limited resources. I teach students in all 6th through 8th grade at my school. They will be in my classroom for three years, and I hope my classroom makes them feel at home.

My Project

Research shows that students learn best when they feel safe and comfortable. My students are used to sitting down throughout the day, and I'm sure it gets uncomfortable. Chairs in my classroom break and crack all the time. Why not make learning fun and innovative using all different types of seating?

My project includes high-top tables, exercise balls, floor mats, and a coffee table so students can choose where they prefer to learn.

In my class, students rotate in different stations to do different assignments, so the class is broken up into short, engaging chunks. At each station, I'm hoping we can include different types of seating in the stations so students stay engaged and are comfortable while working together on different science tasks.
