My Students

My students are beautiful, positive learners looking for a safe place to grow. I work with students one-on-one and in small groups to help them grow socially and emotionally.

As the safe place in an unsettled world, my office is sometimes the only place my students can open up about their lives.

Many of the students I work with are facing so many obstacles and challenges on top of the usual stressors of childhood. As the only counselor in a Title I school, I am always looking for ways to support my students in all areas of development.

My Project

Technology allows for students to escape the overwhelming weight of the world. My classroom and specifically my calm down corner, is a safe place for students to relax. All of the technology in my calm down corner gives students access to apps that can help with journaling, breathing techniques, and other relaxation activities.

With these tablets, my students can use tools to help them manage their emotions and reactions to stressors.

With the added stress of the pandemic and the complete change of so many of our lives, my students are facing more and more obstacles making it harder to self regulate. My students are open and learning how to manage their emotions, adding these tablets allows me to introduce them to new tools and strategies to use.
