My Students

I am returning to my first love...teaching first graders.

The student in my new community represent cultures from all over the world.

That is why differentiation will be key to meeting each child's needs.

My school is a Title One school with 50.5% free and reduced lunches AND a FIVE STAR SCHOOL...the highest rating in our district.

I am so excited to learn how my colleagues have organized themselves to achieve such an accomplishment. I believe the high expectations of parents, students, peers, and administration is going to drive instruction to an even higher level of excellence.

My Project

I've lived in the reading world for the last three years and now I find that I've given most of my non-reading loot to teachers who needed it. I'm ready to blend my love of reading to the world of math with amazing literature like Ten, Nine, Eight by Molly Bang and Equal Smequal by Virginia Kroll. These books will establish a common language for math talks and unit introductions. I also need help with organizing centers and helping the children understand their independence.

The manipulatives and organizational items are key to me rolling out centers based on differentiated learning.

This project is created to help my students be responsible for supplies that they need to complete their centers successfully while engaging in academic learning. Centers provide the perfect opportunity to meet the individual needs of every student and allow me to work 1 on 1, so everyone is successful. This summer, I made multiple centers for every math standard assigned to the first grade. These tools need to be organized so everyone is clear on what is expected to continue on the path of excellence already established at this school.
