My Students

As an interventionist, my teaching motto is “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” Benjamin Franklin, a dyslexic, was speaking from experience when he said this. All of the students that I work with need lots and lots of hands-on practice.

My students are in the bottom 25% academically, but have not been given an IEP.

The purpose of my job is to keep these children from being tested into special education. Seventy percent of our students receive free or reduced lunches. Our school is a Title I school located in a very small town. Because our district is so small, and our city has little industry to collect taxes from, we do not receive much money to buy extra materials with. Despite this fact, we have proved that "where there is a will there is a way." Our elementary school has consistently received high ratings from the state. My kindergarten students struggle with basic language skills and reading readiness skills.

My Project

Deanna Jump and Hope King are two of the most well-known educators in the U.S. They are both exciting and engaging. Both of these ladies are classroom teachers who also share their ideas on their blogs.

At this conference, I will learn hands-on, exciting ways to motivate my students to learn.

The conference consists of reading, writing, and math ideas and lessons, as well as, motivational sessions for teachers.

I want to bring back lots of ideas and lessons that I can implement with my kindergarten and first grade students in reading, writing, math, and vocabulary.

I believe that we, as teachers, learn best from each other. Not only will I learn from these two great educators, I will also return to my school and share what I have learned with the other teachers.
