My Students

Typically, I have around 25-30 students. I teach 5th grade, and my students typically do not have the best home lives. Most of my students come from homes that are struggling financially. A majority of my students come from single-parent homes.

As a result of my students' home lives, I make my classroom become a family.

I help my students become secure with themselves and learn how to respect others. My students are grateful for everything they are given. Everyday I give them animal cookies and they say, "Thank you," every day.

My Project

What is every child's favorite part of the day? Going out to recess. My students have nothing to play with during outdoor recess time. Most of the time this leads to students just standing around talking or swinging. This often then leads to a lot of conflict out on the playground because students have nothing to do. With this recess pack, it will give my students a variety of things to do. My students would have a football, basketball, soccer ball, jump ropes, and baseball gear. This gets all of my students up and moving around during recess.

Several of my students come into my classroom with a lot of energy still after recess.

Getting this recess equipment will give my students the outlet they need to run off that extra energy. Having an organized sport that the students are playing at recess can also help students learn several everyday life skills. For example, it will teach them how to organize a group of people. It will also teach my students how to problem solve. Students will learn out on the playground that if things do not go the way they see them, how to handle that in a fair and professional manner.
