Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are goofy, silly, funny, emotional, frustrated, energetic, impulsive and craving someone to care about them. My classroom consists of 10 students with special needs and 15 students of mixed English Language Learners and General Education students.

This makes it difficult to meet the various needs of the students in my classroom.

I do my very best to make each child feel special and that they CAN do it. My school has a very large population of low socioeconomic students, as well as children in shelters. It would be great to give these students a chance and an opportunity to meet their optimal potential.

My Project

Having a real basketball hoop, bean bag toss boards and swing and catch games will spark an automatic interest in my students immediately. So often when we launch a new topic, students are weary and self-conscious of engaging for fear of failure.

My students will be so very excited to "play", all the while they are building up critical strength to target their fine and gross motor skills.

It is very evident that difficulties with fine and gross motor skills can greatly hinder a child's progress academically.

By tackling these deficiencies in a fun way, students will naturally want to participate all on their own. Having addressed these foundational issues, my students will have the tools and strength they need to continue to progress academically.

They also need games in between learning. The bean bag toss and basketball hoop combines movement, coordination and gross motor skills. Having the talking sight words will allow my students to learn through hearing not just memorizing how to spell each word. As they play each of the motor skill activities, they will press and say each sight word in order to have another turn at play. Joining academics and movement has proven to increase student learning and ability to focus better throughout their day.

You will change their lives by motivating them to want to learn.

You will be empowering students through self motivation and self confidence.

My students will learn that they can do anything they put their minds to and there is a whole new, innovative and creative world inside learning. You donations will give special needs students the gift of knowing that they CAN do it !
