This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Learning middle school mathematics is not easy. Now, imagine trying to understand all these new mathematical concepts while still mastering a language that is not your own. This is what many of my students do each day when they walk through the door of my classroom. However, the challenge does not deter them. Being taught in a language that is not native to them doesn't defeat them. It fuels them. They walk in smiling and eager to conquer the day's lesson.

My seventh grade English Language Learners are persistent and determined.

I would like to facilitate their understanding of my lessons and continue to boost their motivation in my class by incorporating something that translates across any language: technology. I strongly believe that if my students have daily access to tablets in the classroom, it will help them close the academic gap.

My Project

My students need hands on use of technology to help them close the achievement gap in mathematics. We need six tablets with cases to help them close the achievement gap. These tablets will not only keep my middle schoolers engaged, but they will help prepare them for computer based standardized testing.

Although not all of my students have mastered the English language, many of them are experts at manipulating technology.

These tablets will allow my students to learn new mathematical concepts on a platform that is familiar to them. They will be able to participate in learning games, collaborate with their peers on class projects, and provide immediate feedback to me with student polls.
