This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class of kindergarteners is a fun group, who are eager to learn! They attend school in a large district outside of Denver, Colorado. It is a Title I school, which means that there is a high percentage of students from low-income families. There are about 600 students in the kindergarten through 8th grade building, and over 85% of the elementary school children qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Despite the struggles that many students face outside of the classroom, my students are excited to come to school and ready to learn!

My Project

Our classroom library needs leveled books to help students gain confidence and feel successful reading. At the beginning of kindergarten, children come in at different reading levels, and I would like to meet students where they are at, as soon as possible.

The books I chose for our library are levels A-J (Kindergarten-End of First Grade/Beginning of 2nd Grade).

These books will be used during Readers' Workshop time. Students will be able to check out books at their independent level as well as their instructional level, and keep them in their book box at school. They will read independently, with partners, and with a teacher. The mobile storage cart will help keep the books organized.
