Help me give my students Makedo tools to safely cut cardboard, Iris storage drawers to store tools accessibly for students, and other materials to build and experiment with motion.
My STEM rotation classroom is a place where students who struggle in their regular classroom can thrive and gain a passion for learning and students who love school gain grit and interpersonal skills. One thing that ignites that passion is building projects that move: vehicles, windmills, Rube Goldberg machines, and more. As the students work together to solve problems through these experiments and builds, they gain confidence and skills that carry over to the rest of the school day and beyond.
These supplies will allow all 615 students to practice the engineering design process in the most engaging way I have discovered-- projects that move!
The Makedo tools will make building sturdy creations with recycled cardboard much easier and safer for students. Last year we discovered that our classroom scissors struggle to cut cardboard, and these tools will make my classroom safer and enable students to create what they envision with fewer obstacles. The storage cart will replace one that is on its last leg to ensure students have safe and convenient access to tools and materials. The fan will allow us to test wind-powered vehicles.
Hot Wheels, Hexbugs, and Minifigs will be integrated into chain reactions and experiments on Newton's laws of motion, inspiration and test subjects for habitats, playgrounds, waterslides and vehicles. The building materials will allow students to design and build a greater variety of projects.
