My students need fitness equipment that is easy for beginners to use including 2 shrug bars, 1 bar holder, 1 10-lb medicine ball, 2 6-lb medicine balls and 3 standard spring collars so that they can learn to include health and fitness into their everyday lifestyle.

My Students

Our school is an academically screened school in a high needs area in Brooklyn. Our school is one of the most diverse schools in NYC, serving students from all races, nationalities, religions, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our students are high achieving and would really benefit from the best equipment that we can possibly provide them.

Incoming students have exceptional grades in middle school, and upon graduation from our school, we have a 100% college acceptance rate.

Our students have a lot of pride in our school community.

My Project

This project was inspired by our students. They have been asking the physical education teachers for a weight training class for the years, and this upcoming year we are offering it for the first time. The students have asked for the specific equipment we have listed, and we would love to be able to offer it to them.

All of our students and student athletes will benefit from the proposed improvements to the weight room.

The equipment that we are trying to purchase is user friendly for beginners, but it will provide a great challenge for our more advanced students. Students will be able to use the two shrug bars, bar holder, 10-lb medicine ball, two 6-lb medicine balls and three standard spring collars during school in class, but also after school during clubs and team practices.

Medicine balls and the rest of the new equipment will give our students more opportunities to grow as athletic people and help them grow emotionally by overcoming physical challenges.

Being more physically active on a day to day basis is one of the major goals of our school. Ideally students school all be active for at least an hour a day. Having this new equipment would give our students a better chance to be active every day.
