My Students

I work in a second-year school where more than three quarters of our school comes from low-income households. Our school is still growing and changing, and classrooms lack Smartboards and technology. We are an ICT classroom where 40% of our students receive IEPs with special accommodations, and 1 out of 3 students are reading below grade level.

Many of our students are striving learners who are below grade level and working hard to foster a love of learning!

We are here to make that happen! We are working hard to foster this love by giving students multiple opportunities to learn and get excited to become readers, authors, scientists and mathematicians!

My Project

Recent studies have shown that access to technology in classrooms "keep students focused longer and makes them more excited to learn more, especially for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) subjects."

Our school, Growing Up Green Charter School II, is located in Jamaica, Queens and is in year two of operation.

Since the school is quite new, it lacks some essential technology tools used to aid all learners inside of the classroom, including access to SMART boards. A classroom projector will give students and teachers access to up to date and relevant lesson plan materials and structures needed to engage technology savy students of our generation. Access to a document camera will provide our students with live teacher models on how to complete worksheets, and other lesson materials.

Our goal are increasing our students love for learning, and to provide more than one way to present new information in ways that benefit our diverse learners!
