My Students

Nelson Mandela once stated that, “Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mine worker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farm workers can become the president of a great nation." Please give these young individuals the opportunity to have a career of their choice.

My English Language Learners want to thrive in the United States.

My classroom is like the United Nations. There are students from China, Bangladesh, Africa, Venezuela, Pakistan, Ecuador, Poland, and so on. Their families came to the United States for various reasons but the main one is to build a better life for themselves and most importantly for their children. Not only are these students learning how to be proficient in the English language but to adapt the United States culture as well. With your help, these goals are attainable. Many students especially mine are visual and tangible learners. By getting the necessary tools and skills they need, they will be able to succeed academically, personally, and finally paying it forward to others.

My Project

Some may know the phrase, "seeing is believing". With my English Language Learners, they are able to grasp the math concepts faster through sensory instruction. The use of sight and touch can help my students understand basic concepts like multiplication and division facts or more difficult ones such as adding and subtracting fractions.

My students are more engaged in their work and will become less distracted when they are given the tools they need to understand the math task at hand.

LEGO bricks can help my students build and understand math concepts. These bricks have plenty of educational values. Not only through the creative process, but their spatial awareness and proportional reasoning as well. When they use part of their senses with the LEGO bricks, they will recognize and comprehend how the math world works. A simple manipulative can make all the difference to enhance and reinforce their mathematics understanding.
