My Students

My students are just turning five. Currently, we are distance learning. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting, and it is anything but typical! Some of the students have special learning needs and many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line and rely on our free meal plan for their children's breakfast and lunch. The parents are very supportive and they enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories, and learning new things. We are a very diverse community, with over 20 languages spoken.

Our school is a high poverty, Title I school with high expectations for all.

Each day we practice letters, phonics, and sight words. We study science and math. Distance learning during the pandemic consists of live, online instruction on Zoom, and using iPad apps and websites. This is very difficult for four year olds, who can’t even sit through a movie!

My Project

This request is for a Cricut Maker and accessories. With this machine and the requested supplies, we will be able to design and create our own learning materials such as cards, posters, and art projects. We will also be able to design t-shirts and other school wear and accessories.

My students will enjoy the manipulatives we can create with this machine.

Shapes, story characters, counters, nature props, and pictures are just a few of the items they can manipulate, putting them together to make new shapes, puzzles, storybooks, and nature scenes. This will enhance their learning and achievement in math, social studies, science, and art. With the ability to design and cut stickers, papers, and fabrics, my students will be involved in hands-on activities that they will love. Your donation will help a great group of four year olds.
