My Students

I am currently an elementary school teacher in a high needs area. My students love to read! They are fully engaged and motivated throughout their class session, but we do NOT have many books that are on their level. My classroom needs leveled books to continue this thirst for learning. With the rise of literacy approaches such as guided reading, many hail leveled readers as a critical component of effective reading instruction.

The majority of the students in my school are struggling financially.

Some of our students even reside in shelters. Most students qualify for the state's free or reduced price meal program. Often times, the students come into class without the necessary materials to succeed in school. My school has experienced additional budget cuts. Teachers are no longer able to personally give each student the resources they desire.

My Project

Since my students come from low-income homes, it would be a real challenge for their parents to take off of work and still be able to afford the basic necessities for the home. Unfortunately, that leaves some parents stuck between a rock and a hard place, choosing to leave their sick child home alone or sending them to school where they spread their germs to others. Also, if students are constantly sick, that leaves gaps in their education. Think about all the lessons and discoveries they will miss!

We need paper towels, wipes, and tissues to fight off germs in the upcoming flu season.

With your help, our classroom will be prepared to fight a battle in the cold and flu season. As for the cleaners, I will be using it to clean their desk so it will always be germ free. These steps to avoid germs promotes a healthy environment, and it embodies the lesson that is taught throughout the city HIV (how to avoid germs and keep yourself heathy).

Please support my project and provide my class with germ killing Lysol wipes, tissues, and paper towels.
