Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We started the first German Dual Language program at a NYC public school in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We serve a highly diverse group of students and families as a Title I school and thrive to help nurture our student's curiosity for language and learning every day. My students are excited about learning a new language and we aim to build this confidence and interest in other languages and cultures in our multilingual school community. We are planning to open our school buildings for the new school year in a blended learning model and my students will be learning from home at least part of the time. This project will help me create in-classroom lessons as well as virtual learning videos that promote language learning and literacy.

My Project

My Kindergarten students begin to learn to speak, read and write in German and benefit greatly from seeing and hearing me read German books to them.

It is important to me to give my students a personal experience when I speak and read German children's literature.

This classroom library will help me create meaningful language lessons by providing my students with virtual or in-class opportunities to communicate about stories, ask questions and expand their vocabulary. These books for our read-aloud lessons are a key part of helping me bring the German language to life in our (virtual) classroom!
