My Students

Our German language learners are interested in learning about the environment and about caring for the earth.

These students learn to talk about their world in German and plan ways to take care of the world around them and learn stewardship.

We have multiple levels of German Students in the Middle Grade age range. Students come from mixed economic backgrounds and learning abilities. Having physical materials helps students that are hands on learners and helps them retain more of the language. Most of the students focus on real world application of language skills so they can learn about being a steward of the world around them and the environment while they learn German.

Students in our classes have been taking German for one to three years and are working to increase their proficiency. They are newer learners and preparing for high school and career decisions.

My Project

Students will learn about the environmental erosion and development pattern in their native state of Utah. They will hike outside and record environmental changes they see. They will learn how to converse about these changes in German.

Some of the natural resources of Utah are being threatened by air, land and water pollution and students will record these changes with a drone while hiking in natural Utah canyons.

Narration of student films will be in German.

Learning about the environment of Utah and being active is part of being a good environmental steward.

They will record changes they see in the local canyons with a drone and hike outside to experience the landscape and changes. German language skills to talk about natural change and human change in their state will be used to create films. Students will put together films from the natural change that they observe while learning about their local environment and how to care for it. These films might include a student plan to improve the environment.
