Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our K-2 students are enthusiastic language learners and begin learning German in Kindergarten in a dual language setting. The students are eager to practice first conversations in German and enjoy Read- Aloud stories and books for early readers. The majority of students at our Title 1 school live in low-income housing in Brooklyn, New York and we believe that learning a new language is a great way to create a more equal access to a quality education.

My Project

The students will benefit from hearing and reading German stories in the virtual or in-person classroom setting. With this classroom library, we finally achieve an alignment of our German and English curriculum. Each book is carefully chosen as the anchor text for our curriculum units that align with the IntoReading ELA curriculum. This will allow us the opportunity to use quality, multilingual and diverse children's books to deliver instruction in German. This project allows us to build and grow the German dual language classrooms by stocking libraries for students with books that help them learn more about specific units and themes.
