Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Help me purchase the materials that I will be able to use with my Kindergarten and first grade art students. The students will learn about the great Georgia O'Keefe and her famous flowers. I will introduce this amazing artist by reading the book named, "Through Georgia's Eyes".

The book "Through Georgia's Eyes" will present the students with an understanding of the artist's life and her artwork.

After reading the book and viewing her beautiful artwork, we will discuss how she used emphasis and shape to fill the space on her canvas when making close-ups of flowers.

After the introduction to the artist through the book, the students will be able to get their little hands manipulating their clay to create a flower. Clay manipulation is important for small children as it helps to develop the child's large and small muscles, as well as fostering hand-eye coordination.

The Kindergarten and first grade art students will use small pieces of model magic to make shapes and make a three-dimensional flower inspired by the work of Georgia O'Keefe. The flower they create will be a Mother's day gift for their special adult.
