Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 4th grade English, Social Studies & Science in a Dual Immersion Spanish Language program for TK-5th grades where "language is everything." Our goal is to develop proficiency in two languages: English and Spanish. The pathway continues throughout middle & high school, culminating with a Seal of Biliteracy on the high school diploma.

Our students have been together since TK/Kinder -there is a special bond with our 4th-grade students as they learn our rich California history!

My Project

Our students will participate with 4 periods of costumed California Gold Rush docents from the Julian Mining Company. Mining Company staff will provide and run the interactive stations as they bring the California Gold Rush to life at GBE.

Our 4th graders will pan for gold, engage in mining activities which include operating the sluice box and long tom while using mine w/rockers or cradles, throw a tomahawk, square dance & test gold with assayer’s sho.

The 2 hour docent lead program/curriculum aligns with the state 4th grade social studies curriculum. In addition to the 4 docents, we will also have adult classroom volunteers & 4th-grade teachers supporting the interactive lessons.

The price of $13/student, plus a travel fee of $250, is an exceptional value to have an experienced company bring the program to our school campus.
