My Students

My students bring joy and light to our small and community focused school. They are innovative, hard-working, and thrilled to come into school every day. I work at a Title 1 building with a diverse population of kids with many different backgrounds and needs. In addition to feeding hungry bellies breakfast, lunch and snack, we feed them love, acceptance, social skills and a hands on and curriculum based education. Our school mascot is the Comet. We pledge to be safe, respectful to our school, piers and ourselves. Everyone of our students are active and always on the move, curious about everything and love trying new things.

My Project

I am thrilled at the prospect of being able to offer manipulatives to first graders at our Title 1 school that can make geometry become 3 dimensional. Seventy percent of the students here are on free or reduced lunch. As a result, my gifted and capable students have not been as exposed to as many learning experiences as other students from other schools.

This project will help me challenge my academically gifted students in the first grade to "think beyond the paper" and provide creative geometric insights that are not possible at home.

My students will use these hands on materials to investigate 3 dimensional shapes, using them to build with and create in partner and individual settings. We will also use air foam clay to build creatively and explore 3 dimensional shapes. You can help build experiences that will make it possible for these very capable students to gain insights in math that will help develop potential scientist and mathematicians.
