My Project

I teach ceramics to middle school students in 6th through 8th grade. I love helping them create connections across disciplines, both in science ,humanities, and visual art. Using crystal glazes gives me an opportunity to address scientific principles in chemistry, engineering and geology, as well as humanities disciplines of anthropology, visual art and art history. In visual art it allows them to explore the Elements of color and texture further in their work. Many of my students have had little exposure to working with their hands and I value this opportunity to understand technology that has existed since early human history.
