My Students

A solid understanding of geological processes are fundamental to understanding our home planet and to exploring the universe. All students have a sense of wonder and imagination when examining a rock!

My students are bright and curious middle schoolers.

We are a NASA Explorer School and highly value inquiry, application, and critical thinking skills. My students ARE scientists and think of themselves as such. They are adept at generating questions, gathering information, formulating a plan to test their hypotheses, analyzing data, and communicating their understanding of scientific processes. These skills will lay the foundation for future success in college.

My Project

My students are anxious to work with sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks. Living in a state with an active volcano (Mount St. Helens), they are especially curious about the formation of rocks and landforms. With the purchased materials, my students will use math and science based skills such as measurement, classification, and sorting to work with samples of rocks. They will also engage in an Earth Science lab experience that includes stations that focus on geology, meteorology, astronomy, oceanography, and environmental issues. They will use scientific inquiry which includes student-developed questions as well as data analysis.

By having a firm understanding of the rock cycle, my students will be equipped to understand their world and beyond.

I am confident that they will also connect their learning about plate tectonics and geological processes to astronomy, physics, and chemistry.
