This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are excited and interested in exploring the world around them. Geologic and geographic mapping will help our students discover the natural world they live in. They will gain navigation skills without the use of GPS. They will learn how to navigate and locate themselves on a topographic map.

This project will supply them with the tools and resources to foster a greater appreciation and understanding of the local geologic and geographic landscape.

This project will give the students hands-on practical experience in geographic mapping to build a greater understanding of mapping techniques. By using the Brunton transit, I can demonstrate to the students how geologists map rock units and then make geologic interpretations. The students will be using compasses to determine geographic features on maps. They will use their knowledge of topography and the compass to orient and locate themselves manually. This will build a greater understanding of how mapping software locates and navigates leading to insights about modern technology.

Your donation will support the purchase of materials, compasses, a transit. This will lead to a greater understanding of geologic processes and geologic mapping. My students are from diverse economic and social backgrounds. Without your help, they won't get to experience mapping and lead to a greater understanding of the world around them. With your help we can provide students with hands-on practical mapping experiences, bringing out a burgeoning interest in geography and geology! Thank you for considering helping my students!
