Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many people share their admiration for our students who live on through low socioeconomic backgrounds, violent neighborhoods, and racism. Although we share this admiration, we know our students are more than their resilience. We know our students feel passionate for singing, dancing, and performing. We know our students want this creative outlet so they can cope with the heaviness of their worlds.

We know our students are diamonds in the rough- just waiting to shine!

– but we need your help to make this happen. Their talent in the theater is outstanding. Students are eager and quick to learn new songs, dances, and scenes. Our students help each other with practicing lines, choreographing dances, and designing scenes. They have the motivation of future Broadway stars.

Many of our students are still learning where they feel comfortable in the theater. We are hoping to give these students the tools they need to feel their skills and enthusiasm are valued in the production. We also want our stars to shine in the spotlight and take in the glory of their accomplishment. For all our students, we want the theater to feel like a second home.

My Project

Our school is in collaboration with Disney Musicals in Schools and Center Theater Group. Through these amazing programs we, teachers, get training on how to carry out a major musical production. For our first year, we will be performing Aladdin! Our students have been cast and are already showing their amazing skills!

Since we are a new magnet school and have never had a major production, we have no equipment or props and we are in major need of some.

We need this equipment so that our students are able to project their talents to the audience. We will use the microphones so the performers can be heard loud and clear. We will use spotlights to help our stars shine. By helping us get costumes and props this year, we can focus our energy on creating a foundation for many more years of musical theater.
