My Students

A majority of students learn the concepts better if its inquiry based, hands-on activities. Having students see the different eye color and sexing fruit flies will help them understand key concepts on how x-linked traits are passed from one generation to the next generation.

The students in my class come from an inner city environment.

The most important thing for many of these students is making science fun and interesting so they can retain the key concepts being covered in the class. Providing materials that make science interesting will help improve their knowledge in science.

My Project

Easy fly sex linked inheritance kits will provide student a hands-on approach to learning how sex-linked traits are passed from one generation to the next generation. Students will be able to make crosses of fruit flies, collect and analyze the results to decide how eye colors in fruit flies are passed down. This activity will last several weeks that require students to learn how to sex fruit flies, learn the life cycle and how to care for the fruit flies.

We need to make science more interesting to get students interested in pursuing careers in science.

Incorporating more inquiry-based activities will not only make science interesting but students will retain the information better. Hands-on experiments like Easy fly sex-linked inheritance kit will help students get excited about science. The fruit flies provided in this activity will allow students to see and understand how sex-linked traits are passed on to the next generation.
