This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom population consists of academically gifted students from ethnically diverse, as well as a low socioeconomic, households in a rural area of South Florida. Since our school is departmentalized with a full-time gifted program, my 4th grade Math and Science teaching position is comprised of two gifted classes (AM and PM class) consisting of academically high achieving students that are intellectual, creative, and artistic. This requires lessons and activities that are not ordinarily provided by the district.

In each of my classes there are 19 dynamic, high achieving students that yearn to learn which requires me to think of ways to teach OUT-OF-THE-BOX.

My Project

As the math & science teacher of students in a full-time gifted program at a rigorous magnet school, I need to have the materials necessary to bring learning to life, as well as making learning meaningful. In today's world and student populations, we must stay current with our teaching style and that involves technology. Technology has the power to transform teaching by connecting me to my students and to professional content, resources, and systems that can help me improve my own instruction. The two pieces of equipment I am asking for will be pivotal for teaching science and math.

The microscope in tandem with the document camera will enhance my science and math lessons.

During a microscope experiment about the environmental effects in ponds, puddles, or even from your own tap water. The students will collect a few different samples and comparing them. Muddy or dirty water will probably be the most interesting under a microscope, hopefully not our tap water. As well as the observation of a seed or an insect like a bee. The students would be impacted by seeing this displayed up on the interactive board! Using the Ipevo Document camera with the Ipevo microscope would make the science investigations theater size, which will make an impact on the students’ naturally inquisitive mind.

The document camera on its own will allow students to observe the use of manipulatives during a math lesson about fractions or money on the interactive board. The document camera also gives provides students the opportunity to share their work from their notebooks with their peers and learn a valuable lesson in giving and receiving constructive criticism. In a nutshell, the possibilities are endless with a document camera and microscope in our classroom!
