For gifted students, the why behind everything is so important. They want to understand why they are learning, what they are learning, and how they will use it in the future. Students will utilize planning, writing, budgeting, and construction skills to create innovative, functioning greenhouses and gardens.
Gardening supports academic achievement, helps students develop a healthy lifestyle, allows them to be more aware of their environment, and helps them develop a sense of community as well as contributes to improvement in ADHD symptoms, improved academic performance, reduction in stress, anxiety, and depression, and makes positive impacts on immune system development.
The Goal:
The goal of this project is to provide an opportunity for hands-on, active learning to help connect abstract concepts to the real world while developing a strong sense of belonging, fellowship, and empathy, increasing students’ self-esteem, and opportunities to collaborate with community members and to learn job opportunities from professionals, all while enhancing children’s awareness and appreciation of the environment.
My Project
Creating innovative gardening systems that will provide an ideal platform to integrate the curriculum in areas of science, math, social studies, and language arts, while also promoting essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork; instilling pride, ownership, and responsibility in students and community members.
