Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting two hydroponics systems, grow lights, seeds, plant food, and a dedicated iPad to create a vibrant, plant-filled environment in our classroom. These items will not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of our learning space but also have a significant impact on students’ mental health and learning experiences.

Research shows that exposure to greenery can reduce stress, increase focus, and improve overall well-being.

By incorporating hydroponic plant systems, students will engage with the growing process hands-on, fostering a sense of responsibility and pride. The grow lights will ensure that our plants thrive even in low-light conditions, making this project sustainable year-round. The dedicated iPad will be used for research and tracking the growth and health of the plants, integrating technology into our science curriculum and allowing students to develop digital literacy skills.

The goals of this project are to create a calming atmosphere that supports mental health, encourage students to explore the science of hydroponics, and promote collaboration as they work together to care for the plants. Additionally, by tracking plant growth with the iPad, students will gain insights into data collection and analysis, enhancing their critical thinking skills.

My students are unique in their enthusiasm for hands-on learning and their dedication to creating a positive classroom environment. This project will empower them to take ownership of their mental well-being while learning valuable scientific and technological skills.
