A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
In order to teach our students appropriate life skills we are in need of certain supplies. My teacher assistants and I have been purchasing supplies throughout the year and have relied heavily on our parents for support. As spring approaches here in Florida, we are highly interested in growing a vegetable and butterfly garden. Not only would this give our students the opportunity to taste new fruits and vegetables, it would give them the opportunity to learn things they would not have the opportunity to if we did not start this adventure.
Starting a garden not only teaches our students life skills, gives them the opportunity to taste new foods but will let them learn new things and see if they enjoy these opportunities.
It is necessary for us to seize the opportunity to plant our seeds as soon as possible. My teacher’s assistants and I plan on purchasing several items to get started and plan on building the initial garden boxes. As we expand we will probably need more assistance in the future. However, right now we plan to start small just to get things going. In the future we plan to expand to have a trellis and seating for other classes to come out and enjoy the area.
This opportunity will not only open the door to new skills for the students, it will also lead the way for us to teach lessons about a balanced diet and proper nutrition.
