My Project

In Hawaiian, “kilo” means to watch, observe, examine or forecast. Kilo can be used to describe the action of watching or to a person who is an expert in kilo practice. Kilo also references a Hawaiian observation approach during which practitioners focus on the less obvious, more subtle things in their environment. For next school year, we will be doing kilo exercises which will broaden our observational skills and give us a chance to thoughtfully observe nature with all our senses.

Students will create individual Garden Journals with the scrapbooking paper and labels, and they will use these journals to document the events that occur from August to May.

These journals will help them keep track of what we do in the garden and when. It will also be a place to jot down thoughts and snippets they may have about the place in which we live. Place-based education is perfect for the school garden, and these journals will enable my students to be able to look back at what we did in the past so that we can either not do it again or replicate it for continued success. The hand sickles make weeding a breeze! The storage will make access to the different papers easy.
