My Students

My students are very nice children who come from low-income families; some of them live in shelters or are in foster care. Many students live in the projects and as a result, were not exposed to many interesting things that science can offer. However, all my students are very respectful and curious, especially middle school students. They are engaged in all activities I come up with. Even though they need to work a lot on their studying skills, they are not afraid to embrace the challenging tasks. They enjoy inquiry related activities and like to explore new things.

My Project

We created a school garden last school year. Now, we would like to turn it into the garden classroom where students could have some classes. We need the tables to sit and take the notes, so we think that picnic tables would be a great idea. So, when weather allows, all students of the school will be able to share our garden space. Learning in the Garden will help students to see the importance of gardening, appreciate nature, and learn different ways of growing varieties of plants. According to statistics, students who have school garden programs incorporated into their science curriculum also score significantly higher on science achievement tests than students who are taught by strictly traditional classroom methods.
