My Project

I am a dedicated computer science teacher located in a low-income rural area of Mississippi. Our school serves a predominantly African American student population, and we are striving to provide the best education possible to our students.

In this digital age, it's essential to develop not only technical skills but also critical thinking, strategic planning, and teamwork abilities.

To achieve this, I am seeking your support to introduce board games like chess, Othello, Monopoly, The Game of Life, Code Maker and others into our computer science classroom.

Our students face many challenges, and their educational experiences are often limited by resource constraints. Many of our students do not have access to the educational opportunities and resources that can help them develop the problem-solving and strategic thinking skills essential for success, especially in computer science. Traditional board games have proven to be invaluable tools for teaching these skills in an engaging and enjoyable way.

The Solution:

We want to incorporate board games as educational tools in our computer science classroom. These games are not only fun but also encourage critical thinking, strategy, and collaboration. By integrating board games, we aim to enhance our students' cognitive abilities and teamwork skills. Furthermore, we plan to use these games as incentives for our students to excel in their computer science studies.

The Games:

Chess and Othello: These games are excellent for honing critical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic planning.

Monopoly and The Game of Life: These games teach important financial literacy and decision-making skills.

Code Maker: A game designed to introduce programming concepts in a playful and accessible manner.

The Impact:

By adding these board games to our computer science classroom, we intend to achieve the following outcomes:

Improved critical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills.

Enhanced teamwork and collaboration abilities.

Increased interest and engagement

Ms. Meadows Ashland High School Grades 6-8
