Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are eager, young, English Language learners as well as struggling readers and our district is one of high need. My students are very enthusiastic about learning new things.

A previous trip to a farm opened our eyes to their misconceptions about the natural world.

We fielded questions such as, “do chickens have four legs and teeth? “and “why are boy birds more brightly colored than the girls?“ Their wide-eyed innocence and awe-filled faces were adorable. I would like to get them outdoors more often to learn about local plants and animals. Creating background knowledge will enable them to better understand what they are learning in class.

My Project

I have requested board games and coloring books for my students while they are learning at home. Games will help them gain leadership skills that they will be able to use in the real world. Games like guess who, connect four, and Candy Land will help students use reading strategies such as drawing inferences and making predictions. Using these strategies will help students become stronger readers.

These games will be able to be used both inside the classroom and at home while they are learning remotely.

Families will be able to use the games to play them together.

The coloring book will be used to teach about inclusivity.
